Android lights up with Kindle

The wait is finally over! Kindle for Android is now available for download on the Market. The availability of the app is bitter sweet with many asking why it has taken so long to put out the app on the android platform. The iPhone and iPad version of Kindle have been out for almost a year with additional features available shortly, including video and photo support. Nonetheless, Kindle has an abundance of book titles to choose from which range in price from about $9.99 upwards.

The kindle app comes pre-configured with WhisperSync technology allowing the user to synchronize their last known location with other Kindle devices or apps. If you had Kindle for Mac or Windows installed you can also synchronize your notes and bookmarks as well. Offline mode lets you continue to read your Kindle book while you’re in a dead zone and have the app sync up once connectivity is re-established.

Kindle set the bar a couple of years ago as a digital ink reader for e-books and newspapers. The advantage with digital ink is that the screen isn’t back lit. Obviously, this is not the case if you’re using Kindle on your smartphone. It has been said that digital ink is easier on the eyes for long periods of reading. The iBook store was released by apple earlier this year and has provided some healthy competition to digital ink readers like Kindle, Nook and Kobo eReaders. Competition is welcome and means good things for us mobile book readers. Download the app now and check out the free book previews, many of which are surprisingly long.
