Q: How do you multitask on an iPhone?
A : Buy more than one.
That used to be my favourite joke, but I guess I can’t really use it any more. I could if I were in New Zealand though because there has been no release date there at all, so far, for Apple’s latest plaything. Never mind – Android is coming to the rescue – and its a good thing too because the love has been thin on the ground down-under, to say the least.
At the time of writing, the only Android handsets available to New Zealanders who didn’t want to order from overseas, were the HTC Magic (myTouch 3G), LG’s GW620 (Eve) and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. Not a bad bunch of phones, but a tiny selection, I’m sure you’ll agree.
Well, all that is about to change with the anouncement of at least three new Android smartphones coming very soon to stores on the two islands.
First up, they’ll be getting their hands on the Droid, which will be called the Milestone as it is in several other countries. And to bring New Zealand nicely up to date the Xperia X10 Mini, the world’s smallest Android (seen above), and the HTC Desire will be making their debuts there.
All these phones should be hitting shelves in Auckland and Wellington in July. Apple need to be quick if they are to avoid playing catch up. But then again, they need to get used to it.
