SEVEN is an email solution for Android, and other mobile operating systems, which will provide real-time push notifications. Unlike the stock applications for Android, SEVEN will allow you to add almost any email internet address such as such as AOL, Gmail, Microsoft Live Hotmail, MSN, Yahoo! and more. SEVEN provides support for business emails through Exchange and IBM Lotus Domino – which, according to SEVEN, accounts for 80% of the corporate email services.
Use of SEVEN may prove to be a more battery-friendly alternative than the native Gmail app. However, the battery savings comes at a cost. A quick test over at Into Mobile showed that Gmail push notified the user in less than 30 seconds whereas SEVEN’s push notified the user in approximately 4 minutes. Even so, 4 minutes is a far greater improvement to the 15 minute cycle provided by the built-in POP/IMAP android app.
SEVEN is visually appealing, with a dark background and white text. If you have multiple accounts, switching between them will be easy with each account’s icon lining the top of the screen. A quick tap on the screen will bring up the alternate email info.
There is also support for contacts and calendars which will remotely sync with your device from both personal address books and corporate directories.
The installation comes as two apps; SEVEN mail and SEVEN IM. The instant messenger currently only supports Windows Live Messenger and Google Talk. However, AIM and Yahoo IM should be available before SEVEN is released from beta.
Another interesting feature of SEVEN is quiet mode. You can set specific times or days where it will not push email to your phone. This could be used to turn off work emails at night or on the weekend, or all emails off while you’re asleep.
The service is still in beta, but the registration is quick and painless. You can register and download the application here.
