While one of the most important things to Android users is the device selection, after the device has been bought the big search is then for apps. Well, thank you Sony Ericsson for a new website that allows for searching and sharing of application recommendations.
Mash-App.com was created for X series, but also is great for other handset owners as well. The site provides you with “Essentials” and popular apps. You can also view apps based on popular tags, and user recommendations in packs knows as a “mash”. You are then allowed to scan a barcode for downloading from the market. Sony has also said they are going to provide an app for the devices.
While this is a great idea, there is a problem. The XPERIA devices are below android 2.1. Some of the apps that get recommended are not compatible because of this and also the fact that the X10 Mini/Mini Pro require applications that have QVGA compatibility and some packs have apps that do not support these displays.
While it is likely that this is no news to Xperia users as they are probably accustomed to not having access to many apps, it is interesting that while Sony created the tool, their customers are less likely to be able to properly use it than many other handset owners. Hopefully this will be corrected when the XPERIA devices are updated.
