Sony has recently been touting the PSP and the 70 new titles coming out this year. But word has come out that they might be working on a Android based tablet to battle the iPad. A report came out today in the Wall Street Journal that claims “Sony is developing a portable device that shares characteristics of handheld game machines, e-book readers and netbook computers, according to people familiar with the matter”. This news got everyone stirred up and excited at the thought of what Sony might be offering.
This all came to light when an article came out in the second most circulated national newspaper in Japan, the Asahi Shimbun. The article says that Sony is working on a portable device that combines many aspects of the various products Sony offers. The device is geared to go up against the iPad and rumor has it that it will contain features from Sony’s PlayStation brand, Sony’s Walkman and “Ekusuperia” which translates to Sony Ericsson’s HTC manufactured Xperia, a high end smart phone. The exciting part about all of this is that reports claim this will be based off of Google’s Android system.
I need to clarify that this is all speculation, but just the thought of this coming to fruition is very exciting!
