Korea first in line for Galaxy S 2.2 – France second
One of the few things that could be held against the wonderful Samsung Galaxy S was its release date – coming out, as it did, after the announcement of Android 2.2 but before it was loaded onto any devices. This gave the S the unfortunate feel of a phone that was simultaneously brand new and out of date. Now we know that South Korea will get the latest OS in August (Samsung are a Korean company after all) and it looks like the French may be second, according to Samsung France who say that because they use the international version of the phone, they should be able to receive the update in September. As for the rest of us? We’ll make sure you’re the first to know.
Galaxy Beam with pico-projector on shelves in Singapore
The Samsung Galaxy Beam is the planet’s first phone to come with a built in pico-projector. I’ve got one of these on my camera (Nikkon Coolpix) and its neat, and putting it on a phone, where you have the capacity to store reams of material but only a few inches of screen to show it off, is a fantastic idea. and the Beam brags projections of up to 50″ – that’s bigger than my telly! Of course, hardware like this can get mighty thirsty and the phone carries a monstrous 1800 mAh battery to deal with it. Available (in Singapore) later this month for around SG$400 (US$280).
New Sharp MID headed for Japan
NTT DoCoMo Japan’s predominant operator are introducing anther Android based mobile internet device in the form of Sharp’s LYNX SH-10B qwerty clamshell. It has a 5″ screen and front and rear facing cameras for those all important video calls. With all the required connectivity and 3.4MB of storage the LYNX arrives in Tokyo on Friday (7/23) in a choice of white or garish pink.
Another two Android handsets hit UK shelves
Vodafone bring two new Android handsets to the British market today in the shape of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and the LG Optimus. Both devices are available free for £480 ($730) by which I mean free with a two-year, £20 ($30) a month contract. That does however include a monthly 100 minutes, 500 texts and half a gig of data.
