Fring made a smart move when they opened up their API to developers in 2008 and, despite the loss of Skype as an SIP earlier this year, the service has gone from strength to strength ever since.
In case you don’t know, Fring are a mobile VoIP network based on peer-to-peer technology that lets users talk and ‘chat’ over their phones using internet messenger services like Google Talk or AIM.
The latest Android incarnation of the Fring application has tackled major bugs from previous versions such as the dreadful echo that often accompanied some calls as well as vastly improving audio quality overall.
Most significantly, Fring can now utilise front facing cameras of models such as the EVO 4G or the Galaxy S, making it the first true video call app on the platform.
Apart from an open API another thing the Israeli based company do well is listen – many of the bug fixes and improvements of this version sprang directly from customer feedback. That’s the kind of thing we like to hear. And see.
