App name: Awesome Drop by Dashwire
Description: An easy way to put files on your phone by dragging and dropping them into a web browser on your computer.
How it works: Awesome Drop is used to transfer any docs from another computer to your phone. In order to use it you go to a website http://labs.dashwire.com where you get a 4 digit PIN. You enter that PIN in the app and it connects. On the website you have a spot on the screen where you drop the file into and then it transfers the file onto your phone. It does require having FireFox 3.6, Chrome 5 & Safari 5 since it does work on any version of IE.
You are able to see it download on the web browser screen and your phone screen simultaneously. It allows you to do one file or multiple files and works through one by one. As with any data transfer the speed is going to be dependent on the speed of your network so 3G (or 4G if you have it) is going to give you the best results.
Opinion: This app is simply amazing. Wireless file transfer without any software on any computer is very nice. I have used it already to get some files on my phone and the speed was pretty good. It’s much better to use my USB cable for charging anyway.
Ratings:
- Speed (4/5) – Files download fast and but if the app sits for awhile you’ll have to reset the media to start the download.
- Features (4/5) – Only feature is the data transfer which right now is good. It’s be nice to choose where the files could be put on the phone.
- Theme (5/5) – Simple UI with just the one screen.
- Overall (4.5/5) – Pretty perfect for what it offers.
Conclusion: Awesome Drop is just that. Awesome. Now, I have some files I have to get on my phone.
