App Name: IMDb Movies & TV by IMDb.
Description: IMDb is the world’s largest collection of movie, TV and celebrity information. Find Showtimes, Watch trailers, Browse photos, Get TV listings Track DVD/Blu-ray releases, Explore popular charts – award winners, IMDb top 250, etc. Search over 1.5 million movies and TV shows.
How it works: IMDb (Internet Movie Database) is a popular website for finding info on movies and TV also and now it is available as a free app on Android. There are a lot of options for finding info just like the website packed into a nice UI.
From the main screen you have tabs for Movies, TV and People. Each of these tabs offers options related to each one. But a nice feature is on each tab there is a sliding panel of the top/most viewed movies, TV shows and people respectively. IMDb is great for the casual movie/entertainment seeker to the avid cinephile. It has so much info at your fingertips you could win any bet about popular lines from your favorite movie to just wanting to know when the next blockbuster is showing in your area.
I can’t relate all the things you will find in the app so I’m gonna touch on some the options it gives you. If I select a movie like Toy Story 3, the next screen gives me a small pic of the movie poster, how long the movie is its rating and pics from the movie I can scroll through. It also has a link for the trailer and for showtimes.
In addition you get movie details like synopsis and release date and the top billed actors/actresses (that you can select and see all their stuff.) There are reviews, funny stuff (like movie quotes and trivia) and reviews.
Under the TV tab you can do the same and select a show and it gives you the same options (without the showtimes) but you can get a episode list for each of the seasons it was on and selecting an episode gives you details for that particular episode.
For the People tab, it gives you a Starmeter for who is the most popular on the site at the moment. Deftly avoiding all the ‘Eclipse’ stars, I selected Zoe Saldana. It gives her real name, her birthday, pics to look over and movies she’s known for. It also gives a mini bio to read up on your favorite stars.
Opinion: I am liking this app since I am a major movie/TV buff. I went on IMDb website well before this app came about so this is nice to avoid having to use the website all the time. I did get a few FCs while navigating the app, but it reloaded pretty quickly. The UI is set up nicely so you can get to what you want to see pretty fast and then once you’re there all the details are at your fingertips just like the website.
