Steve Jobs tells the Androiders that we are winning

It was inadvertent.  He certainly didn’t mean to tell us that he is losing and we are winning.  It just took some simple math.

At his press conference for Antennagate, Steve Jobs announced that Apple has sold three million iPhone 4 handsets in just 22 days since launch.  Google, at both the Droid X launch event and at their Q2 earnings call a few days ago, told us that they are activating 160,000 new Android devices a day.  Multiply that out for 22 days-worth and you get 3.5 million.  That’s a half million more devices that iPhone 4!

To be fair to poor old Steve, we don’t actually know how many iPhone 3GS handsets are being sold currently.

Apple has only sold 1.7 million iPhone 4 devices (as of yesterday) in the 19 days since their new quarter started.  This equates to only about 70,000 iPhone 4s a day.

Compare Apples 70,000 activations a day this quarter to Android’s 160,000.  Easy to tell who’s winning, eh?
