O2 X10 update
For such a cracking phone its surprising that the Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X10 still runs Android 1.6 and I imagine that many have have popped along to an XDA forum and upgraded with a custom ROM. Spotify fans, on the other hand may have been reluctant to lose some of Sony Ericsson’s own functionality. Streaming music with Spotify has become extremely popular in Europe and Scandinavia and the Xperia skin integrates it nicely with their own Mediascape and Timescape services. If you are one of these Android Spotifiers then good news is on its way in the form of an update. R2BA026 is still an OS 1.6 update but they’ve ironed out some of the kinks of the previous release. Not least the inordinate amount of battery the skin consumed.
Streaking ahead
Like those big tough guys with little brains, the Dell Streak is still struggling along with Android 1.6 pulling the strings inside that giant casing. In the UK at least, a leaked version of a 2.1 ROM has appeared on a MediaFire page. It seems to only be for locked O2 handsets but reports are that it works just fine. As always, installing unofficial middleware is done at your own risk just make sure that you can at least go back to the original version before you embark. The boys and girls at MoDaCo and XDA Developers know all there is to know about such stuff and make highly recommended reading.
Mini phone – Max kudos
It is lovely. Just look at the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini for a minute. Agreed? The phone has brains as well as beauty too with the kind of functionality usually found on larger handsets. The European Imaging and Sound Association clearly think so and have declared it their European Mobile Phone of the Year. Look at it… I think I’m in love.
O2 desire frozen yoghurt
O2 are everywhere this week and if you’ve got one of their HTC Desires, you’ll be jolly glad, because they have promised the Froyo (Android 2.2) update by the end of September at the latest.
