Biometric security coming to an Android near you

Welcome to the future.  In the future, you take a picture of your eye with your cellphone, and using state-of-the-art iris-reading technology, doors will open for you.  Or something.

Soon, an app called BioLock will be available that uses biometrics to keep your phone secure.  There are three levels of security- a pin, facial recognition, and an iris scan.  You can use as many or as few as you wish, to ensure the security of classified documents that you store on your Android.  The face recognition and iris-scanning use either the front or rear cameras.

Apparently, if someone were to try and unlock the device using a photograph of your face, it would not work.  The app can detect a real face.  Another cool thing about the facial recognition: it takes beards and mustaches into account!  This is really amazing, as any facial recognition software that I have used only allows something like three-days-of-not-shaving-leeway.

This app is not just a lock screen.  You can use this app to secure particular documents or apps, if you wish.  That way, if your phone is stolen in the unlocked position there is still nothing to worry about.  Aside from replacing your phone.

This app is not yet available, but it looks like a beta will be started in the next two weeks.  The developer expects it to cost around $3 in the Android Market, and there will be a 14 day trial available.  Sounds fantastic, but we will have to wait and see!
