If you’ve been interested in seeing more of the Motorola Charm, here is your chance. Wirefly has posted their first-look at T-Mobile’s Charm, which is slated to release in stores tomorrow. One of the first things you’ll notice about the Charm is its design is rather unconventional for what we’d expect an Android phone to look like. It’s closer to that of a blackberry device with a fixed qwerty keyboard on the bottom, and pint-sized 2.8 inch touchscreen on top. My first impression of the phone’s target demographic would be social-networking teens and young-adults with dainty fingers. This is definitely a good introductory smartphone for the younger set; an Android I could see my own 10-year old daughter being comfortable carrying in her jeans pocket. It’s form is barely longer than a credit card, and substantially compact.
Looking around the phone, you’ll see on the left side is a volume rocker and a micro-usb port for charging and computer synchronization, and at the top you’ll find the 3.5 mm headphone jack and lock/power button. On the back of the Charm is a 3 MP fixed focus camera (no auto-focus or LED flash, but will record video) and laptop-like Backtrack navigation pad for browsing without covering up the small screen with your fingers.
The Charm is powered by a 600MHz OMAP processor, and comes out of the box with Android 2.1. It includes a 2GB microSD card, and supports up to 32GB.
As I stated earlier, the Charm really feels like a terrific introductory Android Smartphone. I just can’t see heavy app users getting the full experience of what Android is capable of with this one.
