Gigabyte Technology, the motherboard maker company, based in Taiwan has been manufacturing its own brand, GSmart, on Windows Mobile operating devices. That is, until it was reported that Gigabyte lost an estimated 9.3-12.5 million dollars in the handset business.
Gigabyte Communications, the subsidiary, which manufactures the handsets, is now reviewing their business plan and going in another direction. They have changed from making GSmart branded Windows Mobil phones, to ODM with Android as an additional operating system.
Although it’s unlikely that you will see Gigabyte in the U.S., we look forward to seeing what new products they develop.
