It seems the manufacturers that ha’ve adopted Android so far are not going to be the only ones to profit from Android’s continuous expansion, but small carriers, too. US Cellular is announcing that they will get the popular HTC Desire on their network.
This is US Cellular’s second Android phone, after the Samsung Acclaim, and Samsung Galaxy S will soon join them, too. The Desire was confirmed for US Cellular back in April on Facebook and through a press release. It was supposed to come in July, but the launch was delayed. Now it’s good to go and will come to their network on August 27th.
Even though the Desire was launched quite a while ago in February, in UK, it’s not much different from the latest Android phones in terms of specs:
- 3.7 inch AMOLED WVGA touchscreen display
- 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor
- 5-megapixel camera with auto-focus, LED flash and geo-tagging support
- GPS
- 512MB ROM and 576MB RAM
- microSD expansion (up to 32GB)
- WiFi (802.11 b/g)
- Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
- 1400 mAh battery
If US Cellular, currently the #6 US carrier, continues to get as many Android phones as they can, they will get many more customers than they would with the old style, non-multitouch phones. They should try to improve their relationships with the best Android manufacturers like HTC, Motorola and Samsung, and convince them to give them some of their latest models as soon as they release them, too.
