Motorola Gingerbread Tablet by the Holidays

Everyone is talking about it, but everyone has been talking about Android Tablets for what seems like a long time and today Digitimes had a little more to wet our appetite. It seems likely that a 10.1 inch tablet is being prepared by Google and Motorola to be ready for the next iteration of the Android Operating System, Gingerbread (3.0), by the end of the year.

The partnership would see Google team up with Moto in much the same way that they did with HTC to bring us the Nexus One. If previous form is anything to go by, then it sounds like a marriage made in mobile heaven.

The wait for Gingerbread makes certain sense. The huge explosion of Android devices, with all their different screen sizes and densities, has left developers’ heads in a spin and incorporating tablet support is one of the top priorities for the next OS.

As for the hardware, well, with the screen by Sharp, expect thinner than the iPad but maybe not as bright. The chipset is the highly optimized Nvidia Tegra 2 system-on-a-chip – meaning up to 1GHz of dual core power and as much video support as you could dream of.

Now if that hasn’t got you thinking about the Holidays, then I don’t know what will.
