Motorola's iPad killer delayed for Android 3.0 goodness

According to a leaked roadmap from Verizon, there is a Motorola 10 inch tablet in the works.  It will have a 1 or 1.3 GHz processor and have global roaming capabilites.  It seems however that Jonathan Geller of Boy Genius does not think it will be happening in November as per that roadmap.  He states:

Don’t expect the Motorola so soon though, as we’re informed that while the launch was supposed to happen in December, Android 3.0 will probably hold up the release of that device and we should expect it around February 2011.

As you may know, tons of tablets have been flooding the market from China.  Most of these run Android 1.6, some of them have 2.1.  They simply don’t translate well into being an unmodified tablet system.  That has not stopped their success though.  I would buy an Android tablet tomorrow if it was reliable, worked well, had a front facing camera or the ability to connect a webcam, a capacitive screen and a few other things.  I would prefer it to have a tablet optimized operating system, and the Dell Streak isn’t it.  Ok, sorry, that was a bit of a rant.  I will stop by saying that I am a big proponent of an Android tablet, as long as it works well and is at least slightly innovative.

I think that waiting until next year is a poor play for both Verizon and Motorola.  They need an iPad rival out soon, or they will lose the market.  Waiting for January means being very close to an iPad 2 launch in April (just rumors based on previous Apple product lines).
