Notion Ink has finally announced the pricing for their Adam tablet. There will be 4 models, with the cheapest one being $399, featuring only Wi-Fi and LCD, and a 3G alternative being priced at $449. Then there will be the 2 PixelQi versions, one priced at $449, being Wi-Fi only, and the other will be priced $498 and will come with 3G.
Considering the iPad is $499 for the Wi-Fi version, and the 3G one is $629, the Adam is significantly cheaper. The Adam tablet has features that the iPad doesn’t, like the PixelQi display for e-reading, GPS, 3 MP swivel camera (rotates from front to back), the Dual Core Tegra 2, which is based on the latest ARM Cortex A9, 1080p video playback, anti-glare coating, 2 USB ports, back-side trackpad and an external card slot.
The Adam tablet will come with Froyo, which might turn some people away once Android Gingerbread is announced in October or November. Apparently, Gingerbread will come directly on their next-gen tablet Adam 2, along with the yet unannounced Tegra 3, sometime in Q2-Q3 2011. They are also saying that Adam will receive the Android 3.0 update and will get access to the Android Market and to their own app store that already has 340 developers and millions of book titles.
If Adam manages to launch before Christmas, they should have a successful launch and will quickly become the tablet that will be compared with the iPad the most. The question is, will you be one of those that will buy one for Christmas, or will you wait for Adam 2?
