ShopKick is a check-in service like FourSquare. Essentially retailers will sign on to using the app and when you check-in at one of those stores, you get discounts, rewards, and other goodies.
ShopKick will be released on Tuesday for iDevices, and is coming to Android soon. At launch, it will be supported by Macy’s, Best Buy, American Eagle and a few others. Long-term, they hope to have most mall-based retailers in on the app.
It will debut first in some big shopping capitals- New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago. Simon Property Group, a national mall operator, will also be encouraging its use in their malls.
By entering certain stores, you gain kickbucks. These also get “paid” out to you by trying on clothes and buying things. You can then purchase rewards with kickbucks. It is unclear what these rewards are though. The app will also function like a member card; you get exclusive discounts and offers for using it.
Some people might be concerned about privacy, but just be safe and smart. ShopKick will try to take privacy into consideration while still giving a great shopping experience.
