One of the lowest price points we’ve seen on an android phone has been released by Cricket and Sanyo. The Zio is not the superphone like the Droid X or Evo that attracts power users but the low price point may entice entry level android buyers to jump on the bandwagon. At $249 off contract you can expect to get a 3.5″ WVGA touch screen, WiFi, 3G, 3.2MP camera / video recorder, and a 600Mhz Qualcomm processor. The major drawback of this phone is that it ships with Android OS 1.6 with plans to upgrade to 2.1 or higher later on. It’s disappointing to see smartphones ship with such old OS installations. On the upside, Cricket Wireless is offering a $55 per month unlimited everything package.
