World Round Up: More Indian Handsets - Android PMP

Think of the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is the X10’s little brother. Running 1.6 and decidedly slower and dimmer than its bigger, tougher sibling, the X8 is the latest phone rumored to hit the Indian market where it will be nicknamed the Shakira.

Spice of life
Indian company ‘Spice Mobile’ market their android handsets as the “& Series” and they have just brought three new mobiles to the subcontinent. Manufactured by Malaysian electronics company CSL the three handsets cover all bases nicely with screen sizes of 3.2, 4.1 and 7 inches. The Mi-300 (pictured), Mi-410 and Mi-700 all come running OS 1.6 but are all capable of and expected to upgrade to 2.1. Starting at around Rs.9,000 ($200), the Mi range should do well.

Android PMPs have been around for a while but the GoGear Connect is Dutch company Philips’ first. Only available in the UK at the moment, through Argos of all people. Only those of you that have encountered Argos’ bizarre pick-from-a-book-queue-for-a-ticket retail model will understand my surprise. At £200 ($300) you might just want to carry on playing tunes with your phone.

T-Mo to update Desire
Vodafone have done it. Virgin have done it and now T-mobile will do it. Upgrade their HTC Desire users to OS 2.2 at some point in September.
