Android May Be Excluded From UMA Support

News is coming out of the T-Mobile camp that UMA support may not be coming to Android devices.  For the uninitiated UMA stands for Unlicensed Mobile Access and it is designed to allow users to make calls and text messaging over Wi-Fi.  This technology makes overseas travel a little easier for those who have devices that support it.  When Om Malik of GigaOm asked a T-mobile representative about UMA support for Android devices, the T-mobile representative stated that T-mobile will continue to support the current four devices that already have the UMA technology.  Those devices are the Nokia E7 and three Blackberry devices.  While this doesn’t necessarily confirm that UMA won’t come to Android devices, it does seem like they aren’t thinking too much about it right now.  While we wait to see what happens with the UMA support, you still have an alternative with Google Voice for text messages over Wi-Fi but not calls.
