Loopt Star is a location based check in style app by company of half the name Loopt. It’s basic function is to just offer you places to check-in however where it is slightly different from other more social check-in apps is that it has more of a reward/coupon based reason for using it where users can check in to redeem a reward or coupon at a participating store. It is also now available on Android.
Loopt works with various brands such as Burger King who for example offer a free coffee or soda with purchase of regular sandwich or breakfast sandwich (available on first check in), Steve Madden (20% off purchase), Sports Authority (10 percent off a purchase of $50 or more) and so on to add value to their app. This is something that I believe will catch on extremely well as a marketing tool.
The other big location check-in based app players such as Foursquare and Gowalla have also been getting involved in offering rewards to checker inners as well. In my opinion this way of getting deals out is a fantastic way for businesses to market their current deals and attract new customers and I hope to see more of it.
