There are leaks out there that show that pre-orders will start being shipped out soon in the next 7 business days. This could mean the G2 is going to launch very soon. This is going to be exciting news for those of you who like the T-mobile network, and also love the fact that they’re going to have a phone with stock Android on it.
I think it’s great news that HTC has decided to keep supporting stock Android on some of its phones, even though in much smaller capacity than its Sense versions. HTC’s first Android phone had stock Android on it, and it also launched on T-mobile, so I suppose they are going to maintain this tradition, and release a new generation of smartphone with stock Android on it, every year.
Another great news is that this phone will apparently have Wi-fi calling on it. This will be similar to FaceTime from iPhone, in a way, except you won’t get to see each other – just talk. The way it works is very simple. You simply switch on wi-fi calling, and then if you try to call someone, you will be calling them through wi-fi.
Other news about the G2 are not so great. The G2 will have tethering disabled, just like any other Froyo phone out there. Carriers just don’t want you to tether for free. At best, they are only going to give you tethering if you pay extra for it.
“Tethering and Wi-Fi sharing will not be supported initially on the device, but T-Mobile knows that consumers are interested in these features and we’re working to develop a solution to support them in the future.” – T-mobile
