Americans can relax. The Galaxy Tab will only cost between $200 and $400. The downside, if you want to take it that way, is that you’ll also be tied to a contract – similar to when you get a high-end smartphone with a data plan, which is normal these days.
I’ve mentioned before that there’s no way this tablet will cost about $1000 and it won’t – at least not in USA. If they mentioned that this will be USA only, then it’s quite possible the tablet will cost that much in Europe and other places. I suppose this happens because they didn’t have time or got lazy about their relationships with other non-US carriers that could’ve subsidized the tablet.
It also makes a lot of sense now why they said they believe in the future people will use more SIM cards. It’s in their interest for this to happen because they want to sell cheap tablets to consumers, subsidized by carriers. And the only way they can do that is by getting the tablet tied to a data plan and a SIM card.
I expect Galaxy Tab to be a success in USA, but I doubt it will sell as well anywhere else.
