Not sure which Android phone to buy, or try out, or slaver over? Google is going to make your comparison shopping much easier, and they want you to know about it.
The Google Phone Gallery has Android phones featured from all over the world. As long as the phone has Google mobile services, it should be in the Gallery. That means Android Market, Google search, Gmail, Maps, Talk and the like. Android devices without the Market need not apply.
Comparison tools allow you to search by carrier, manufacturer, or country. For example, here’s what I can buy from Verizon today:
You can compare up to three phones and see their technical specs side by side. Here’s the compare page, where I’ve picked out the DROIDs I want.
Specs includes Android OS, user interface, connectivity features (such as which version of Wi-Fi or Bluetooth), other hardware details, memory, dimensions, and plenty more, plus extras that don’t fit in a particular section. For example the above comparison told me the DROID X has a slightly better screen resolution than the other two DROIDs.
You can sort phones either by alphabetical order or release date. Phones that haven’t been released won’t appear in the Gallery until they launch, so you can’t check out specs for upcoming phones versus available ones.
Google will continue adding phones and countries, because this list is not exhaustive. For example Canada only has Bell, Rogers, TELUS and Virgin as carriers. Where’s Wind Mobile,Fido or the newly launched Videotron, all of which carry Android phones? I’m sure the United States has more than five carriers with Android offerings as well.
As I write this, the Gallery is intermittently unavailable. Guess there’s way more interest in Android phones than Google suspected! Try it out (if you can). Would this replace Droidthing?
