Samsung currently has the best display technology on the market – Super AMOLED. It’s better than any LCD display and it’s better than regular AMOLED displays. They produce only 3 million smartphone displays per month right now, and that also includes their AMOLED and LCD displays that they are manufacturing for other companies.
Samsung is going to ramp up production by an order of magnitude next year, from 3 million to 30 million smartphone displays per month. They’ve also said before that next year they will start manufacturing their next generation of Super AMOLED displays, so we should be expecting a lot more Super AMOLED phones from Samsung and perhaps from competitors as well, if they decide to let them license the old technology.
Even though there will be a competiting Super LCD technology coming from Sony this year, Samsung also has prepared a Super TFT technology. I believe Samsung will continue to remain the smartphone display technology leader, as well as the leader in mobile graphics with their upcoming Orion chip. Both of these will make Samsung at least one of the top 2 best Android phone manufacturers.
