Toshiba's New Slim, Fast Android Netbook!

Toshiba is going against the grain. Normally netbooks are typically members of the Windows-Intel club, but not this one. The Toshiba AC100 Netbook comes with Google’s Android operating system and a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 250 processor.

The Toshiba netbook is surprisingly thin and is very lightweight. The netbook will ship with Android 2.1 which is typically a smartphone OS. Here are some of the features of the AC100:

  • Operating system: Android 2.1 (with 2.2 coming)
  • Processor: Nvidia dual-core Tegra 250
  • Memory: 512MB
  • Storage: 16GB flash
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce graphics
  • Screen: 10.1-inch
  • Ports/connections: SD card slot; USB 2.0; Web camera
  • Wi-Fi: 802.11b/g/n
  • 3G: Optional
  • Battery life: Rated at seven hours
  • Weight: 870 grams or about 1.9 pounds
  • Price: Not disclosed, but product in Japan will be priced at, or under, $500
  • The AC100 is going to be unique because it addresses the battery life issue. With the AC100 you will get up to 8 hours of battery life and 7 days of standby time. It also comes with instant on capabilities which means you are never more than a second away from the web. It comes out of standyby mode in 2 second! One of my favorite features is the LED email notification light. Even if you are not on your AC100, it remains connected and will let you know if you have an email just by looking for the LED light to blink on the side.
