Romanian smartphones getting smarter
Huawei are one of those companies that a few years a go you might not have heard of but whose name you now hear on a daily basis. If you are Romanian however you’ve probably known about the Chinese company for nearly ten years, as that is how long they have been producing most of the country’s mobile phones. Shame, I was hoping the company would be called RomCom.
Huawei are bringing some very smart phones indeed to Romania in the last quarter of this year, not least of which is the U8800 (pictured) which has a multi-touch screen, HD video and 15 Mbps download speeds. 15 Mbps! I only get 20 here in the centre of London!
Other offerings will include the lower spec U8300 and a dual sim phone. Romania often receives bad press, quite unfairly, I think, so its good to have something positive to say about what is one of the most beautiful countries on the planet.
Spica of life
Digitel Mobile Philippines is Malaysia’s third biggest mobile service provider and market as Sun Cellular who offer popular and competitive deals on a wide variety of handsets. Samsung’s i5700 Spica is a newcomer to this array and is being offered free with Sun Cellular’s Elite plan. I was surprised at first to see that it is being offered running Android 1.5 still – and then I remembered you can never expect much from a device that begins with a lower case i.
New tab from Orange sounds tasty
This one’s hot off the press so there’s not much meat on the bones but, mixed metaphors aside, Orange are planning a 3G, WiFi, Android tablet by the end of the year. Rumors are of a £200 ($310) price tag or half that with a contract. I’ll be keeping a close eye on this one, so check back here for more as it comes in.
