Liquid marketing
I couldn’t sell my old lawnmower, no matter how hard I tried. It was probably because it was old and broken and I wanted too much money for it – but then I had a brainwave – I painted it red and stuck a Ferrari logo on it… Genius? You decide, but Infinity Retail (India) have clearly been thinking along the same lines and are hoping to shift the Acer Liquid E using the same tactics. Clearly targeted at men, Infinity seem to think that painting a phone red and associating it with a fast car will convince us to buy it. Do they really think we are that dumb? It takes a photo of a pretty girl in a bikini to get us to part with our money.
One World – One Google
Or not, as the case may be. No one will disagree: the international roll out of paid apps has been slow. The process has been wrought with political and legal difficulties and for those hoping to buy or sell apps, it has been painfull.
India is just one more name on the list of countries where paid apps are now available (to buy) but in terms of customer numbers, its a whole new world. Not only does the subcontinent have the second largest poulation on the planet, more than doubling the number of people who can now buy Android apps, but it is an unexplored area in cultural terms when it comes to apps. I expect that switched on developers will already be looking to capitalize on this and as long as they remember to color their apps red and plaster Ferrari logos all over them, they should do just fine.
LG are the chic ones
The Optimus Chic and the Optimus One are two middle-of-the-road handsets that LG intend to release in Europe around the end of the year. The photo below is of empty form factors so there’s not much to say except that both phones are ecxpected to come with Android 2.2 pre-installed. The Chic (left) looks as though it wants to be an iPhone but at least its not red.
Total Hypocrite
Having torn Acer apart a moment ago for their stupid red phone, I am now going to completly contradict myself by saying how great I think the Taiwanese company are and suffer the consequences of my cognitive disonace later. Acer plan to bring out three super-duper Android tablets that will run Gingerbread (that’s OS 3.0) early next year. With screen size playing a more important factor in customer choices than had perhaps been anticipated, Acer, smartly, intend to produce 5, 7 and 10 inch versions and keep everybody happy.
In the meantime – does anyone want to buy a red lawnmower.
