Leaks galore
The internet has made it very difficult to keep information secret and leaks have become a common part of the modern news landscape. Leaks are also a fantastic way to generate free publicity. Stick the word ‘leak’ into a story and more people will read it. Want people to take your information seriously? Get it leaked.
With everyone hungry to learn how much the superb HTC Desire HD will cost them and everyone, including myself, piping in with an opinion, I’m probably not the only one to have entered “HTC Desire HD price leak” into my search engine, and I wasn’t all that surprised to unearth this little table on Android Central.
€359 ($480) is what you’ll pay Vodafone for the phone with a contract. Without one, the HD will cost you €520 ($690).
Its not only Vodafone who have been taking this route to publicity this week, O2 Germany are pulling much the same stunt claiming that an unruly employee leaked a whole table of “confidential” prices. Yeah, right. Weeding out the iPhone and something called Windows Mobile (no, I’d never heard of it either) there are some interesting Android handsets on the list including the Desire HD – quoted at €559 ($727) and the Motorola Milestone 2 for a little less at €530 ($690) or the Defy for €380 ($500). $1000 tab
The Australian dollar is not far from being one-on-one with the US dollar and $1,000 dollars (999 to be exact) is what you’ll pay for the Samsung Galaxy Tab down under, which ever carrier you choose, ’cause they’re all planning to offer the Tab come November when it ships there.

HTC desire users with Orange UK have started tweeting that the much awaited Froyo (OS 2.2) has arrived. I spotted one last night, and dozens this morning which is great… except my own HTC Desire is still stuck on 2.1 – Come on Orange!
Flipping great
We reported the unusual looking Motorola Flipout before, when its release was muted for Europe in July. Then things went quiet for a while – but now Orange UK have snapped it up on an exclusive and I think its a smart move. Whatever you think of the shape, it has social networking sewn into the lining and could be a huge hit with youngsters if a few of the cooler kids start carrying it. Let’s wait and see.
