It’s getting closer to the big day – the day when Gingerbread, the new major revision of Android, will be shown to the world. One of the sources close to Android’s core, has revealed that the new SDK for Android Gingerbread will be released as soon as need week. This means we’ll be able to take a peek at some of Gingerbread’s features and looks weeks before it’s announced.
It’s been almost 5 months since Froyo was announced, but hopefully they had enough time to work on the new design. They hired the WebOS designer about a month before Froyo, so that gives him at least 6 months to work on Android’s UI overhaul. They might not get many chances after this to overhaul the UI, so hopefully they get it right from the first try.
I expect the UI to be only much more polished, but also quite a bit different from iPhone’s UI. Many have accused Android of copying the iPhone OS, so perhaps now they will take a new direction with the UI, as well. This is even more important now that WP7 has shown that having a very different UI from the rest, is a very good thing.
The WebOS designer created what is still considered the best looking and most elegant OS around, so let’s see if he can surpass himself and create and even better UI for Android Gingerbread. No pressure!
