Since Android is open source, all manufacturers have to make public their modified source of Android as soon as possible after they launch the phones. Motorola has just released their source for Droid X, so if you would like to tinker with it, now you can do that.
This should also help the hacker community that plays around with mods for Android and since Droid X has been a popular phone, we should see a lot of improvement for it from the community.
