Need to kill some time? Try out Talking Tom Cat (free)

App Name: Talking Tom Cat (free)

Description: Let Tom mimic your voice while fulfilling your necessity/curiosity of having a pet cat.

How it works: Using your Android device’s microphone, Tom listens to your voice and mimcs in a higher/cartoon-ish tone. Tom will animate as he listens to you, when you feed him, poke him, pull his tail, or ignore him. Tom will even playfully scratch your screen by taping on the “paw” icon. Taping on the video camera icon allows you listen to Tom’s last mimic. Taping on it again allows you to upload to the mimic to YouTube, upload to Facebook, or send via e-mail.

Opinion: Most of the selections are on the main screen of the application which allows easy navigation. The settings menu lets you select if you want Tom to listen longer and allows you to disable poking tom or pulling his tail. Disabling “violence” is useful when you find your self accidentally poking him when he is trying to listen to you. Its nice to be able to interact with Tom.

Ratings:

  • Features (4/5) – Sharing mimic, animations and interactions.
  • Theme (3/5) – pretty standart, nothing too special.
  • Overall (4/5) – easy to use and addictive (the good kind)

Pros: Sharing

Cons: Constantly asking to upgrade to the paid version

Constant notification of the Talking friends Collection

Video of the mimic is only in AVI format

Conclusion: The app is fun and easy to use. Its highly addictive and being able to share the recordings is a nice feature to have.  Pausing when you’re speaking may cause Tom to stop listening, but being able to select the “listen longer” setting helped out.
