The Samsung Galaxy Tab: everyone’s talking about it, nobody knows when they can get one. So here’s something from a tipster to Boy Genius Report: Sprint Nextel should be getting the hot Android tablet out to customers on November 14th, selling for $399 on a two-year contract and $599 without one.
$399! That’s kind of high given the contract subsidy. Let’s see if this rumor pans out, and if the other three large wireless carriers in the US (Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile) offer the Galaxy Tab at the same pricing. All four carriers have announced they will sell the device, but pricing and release dates are still unknown.
Meanwhile, we’ve also got Dutch pricing for you on the 7 inch tablet. According to MobilityMinded, you can pick up a 16 GB Tab in the Netherlands for €749, and the 32 GB version will run €849. By way of comparison, the 10 inch Apple iPad, with 64 GB of storage and 3G of internal memory, costs €799.
And there’s more news on the Tab front. The Wall Street Journal reports that several publishers are working with Samsung to launch content for the tablet. Some US versions will have The New York Times preloaded, with a free subscription until January, 2011. At that time their website will also require a subscription. The Wall Street Journal will also have an app for the Samsung Tab, requiring a subscription fee. USA Today publisher Gannett is also developing an app for its newspaper content, and Financial Times publisher Pearson PLC is having discussions with tablet manufacturers.
Several news publishers have expressed frustration with selling their product on the Apple iPad, which was released in April. While Apple has a dedicated hub for book sales, periodicals do not have a similar home. Publishers are eager to develop Android apps for the Galaxy Tab, assuming they will work with other announced Android tablets.
Finally, Samsung has released photos of the Galaxy tab in real-life usage. Thanks to Eurodroid for the photo gallery!
