In a previous story I mentioned that Motorola has been changing their product codenames faster than the lady in the Quick Change act switches dresses. So we shouldn’t be too surprised when the Android blogosphere can ask whether the Motorola MB860 Olympus is actually the Motorola Stingray MZ600 tablet, or if the Tegra 2 smartphone that’s Sanjay Jha’s baby is actually the Olympus, and/or whether the Stingray has another new Moto codename, the Everest.
There has been a Motorola Stingray MZ600 Android tablet on both versions of the Verizon roadmap, the one released in August and the second one six weeks later.
There have already been rumors that Motorola was working on two different Android tablets, a 7 inch and a 10 inch. That led to some surmising that the two mountain codenames were related products, therefore they could be those two Moto Android tablets.
So speaking of Jha (head of Motorola’s mobile division) and tablets, here’s what he had to say about two different form factors:
I think that a companion 7- to 10-inch device in a home will become very important, [both] as an augmentation to your TV experience [and] also as a way of walking around the house and streaming TV to that device,” Jha said. “I think we’re very focused in participating in this convergence that’s coming between mobility and home, and I think you will actually see some products from us in a very short period of time.
I’m sure Motorola will be pulling another Quick Change with those product names before we get to see some leaked blurry pictures. We’ll be bringing you updates and any new codenames as soon as we hear about them.
