This past week, the Star Wars Empire Strikes Back app was released into the Android Market. Unfortunately, it is only available for “select” Verizon Android phones.
The app was released exactly one week after the launch of the limited edition R2-D2 Droid 2. The launch also marks the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars saga. It is possible that this app was released to help try and stir the hype for the R2-D2 Droid 2.
You can find the app listed as “free” in the Verizon section in the Android Market but once you download the app, you will have $2.99 charged to your bill (as opposed to the normal Google Checkout procedure) to unlock featured content such as live wallpapers, widgets and sound boards.
The app has 4 sections based off of scenes from the movie, The Empire Strikes Back, which include a live wallpaper, movie clip, photo gallery, soundboard and widgets. This one of a kind app is also loaded with a Bounty Hunter scavenger hunt, a Star Wars news feed and a trivia challenge.
