Kevin Lynch, Adobe’s CTO, is making what some would consider a bold statement. He says that by Spring 2011, Android will have a bigger install base than iOS. While Android is outselling the iPhone 2 to 1 in USA and almost the same globally, it still has a way to go until it surpasses iPhone’s installed based of users. After all Android didn’t really take off until the first Droid was introduced exactly 1 year ago, so Apple had 2 good years to sell the iPhone. While this claim seems pretty bold, it will probably be true if Android’s growth continues to skyrocket month after month. Hopefully, right about then, Android Honeycomb will also eclipse iOS through a much better interface.
Here’s his full statement:
“In the springtime, I think that’s when we’re going to see the crossover in terms of smartphone market share. Android is really going to have a majority. And some of the other phones, like iOS for example, from a market share perspective declining largely due to Android increasing“
