Panasonic bringing Android phones to Japan in 2011, more markets in 2012

Good news today for Japanese consumers wanting to get their hands on new Android devices. Panasonic is finally stepping out of the dark and throwing their hats in the ring. Speaking at a recent news conference in regards to Panasonic’s lack of involvement in the Android explosion, the head of their mobile division, Osamu Waki gave a very positive qoute on what the future holds for the company and its  plans for mobile development moving forward.

The company misjudged the speed at which smartphones would be taken up in the Japanese market, with the rapid shift to Android, we want to catch up quickly.

While the details are still under wraps, the Panasonic phones will be using an Android OS, and they hope to set the devices apart from others by using networking capabilities with other Panasonic products. The release of these new devices is expected to begin next year, while they plan on expanding to more overseas markets in 2012, once there is a solid foundation for those initial Japanese releases.
