WiFi Calling is a Go, on Google Nexus One and Samsung Vibrant

WiFi calling has finally come; at least to two different phones, unofficially of course.

The great Android hackers have found a way to get the WiFi calling app from the T-Mobile G2 to work on both the Nexus One and the Samsung Vibrant.

For the Vibrant, it’s actually pretty easy, just flash one of the new Froyo leaked ROMs and bam it’s working, I would recommend either Eugene’s Macnut or Teamwhiskey’s Obsidian.

For the Nexus One it is a little bit more difficult. XDA member Rsotbiemrptson has the full run down in his thread here. The basics are as follows,

  1. Root your phone
  2. Install ROM
  3. Flash a new kernel
  4. Install a few hacked apps

Basically, you’re going to be hacking your phone either way, but for some of us who don’t have good signal where you primarily use your phone, points to myself, this is a necessity now that it is available.
