Google's Nexus S Available Now for UK Pre-Order

For those living in the UK, your chance to grab a Nexus S just got a little closer. Carphone Warehouse is now taking orders for the recently announced, and highly anticipated, successor to the Nexus One.

The Nexus S, made by Samsung, will be the first smartphone to feature Google’s next revision of Android, Gingerbread (Android OS 2.3), which brings a few visual refinements to the interface as well as a host of improvements under the hood. These features include improved speed and responsiveness thanks to refinements in its power management, and improved battery life.

With Android, most OEMs layer their own skins on top of the OS in order to differentiate their devices from the competition and to enhance the user experience. The Nexus S, like the Nexus One, will offer users a pure Android experience with nothing added by the carriers.

In addition, the Nexus S brings some useful features to the market, such as Near Field Communications, which will allow for the exchange of data between the phone and another device. This technology has many potential applications, such as the ability to pay for store items with your phone or gain access to important information from virtually anything containing a special chip.

Carphone Warehouse is pricing the Nexus S at ₤549.95 on a pay-as-you-go option or free with a ₤35/month, two-year contract. Additionally, the phone can be purchased unlocked and SIM free for ₤549.95.
