The ViewSonic G Tablet is one of the first devices with NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 processor, and while that might convince some of you to go out and buy it immediately, others need to know what kind of speed this tablet is packing.
Anandtech ran benchmarks of the G Tablet with several other devices to test out the processor. The tablet went against the Nexus One, Evo, and G2, all using Snapdragon; the Galaxy Tab running Hummingbird, TI OMAP on the Droid 2, and the A4 found in Apple iPhone 4. As expected, Tegra 2 excelled in four out six tests.
The Tegra 2 beat all tests, between 30% – 5o%, except with the LinPack test, which the Nexus One won by a small margin. Anandtech mentioned that these tests were not multithreaded, meaning the Tegra 2 was only utilizing one core, rather than both. This gives an impression that this processor could be twice as fast if they harnessed the power of both cores. It will be interesting to see what developers do with this.
Two gaming benchmarks were done against just the Galaxy Tab, and interestingly enough, the results were split between the two, with the Tab winning the Neocore Benchmark and ViewSonic winning Quake III Benchmark. At the moment, I would call the results inconclusive until more of the same kind of tests are run.
