If you were hoping for a LTE device from HTC anytime soon now, don’t get your hopes up. HTC just announced that there won’t be any LTE devices from them until at least mid 2011, according to Peter Chou, the CEO of HTC. Chou also mentioned that these devices will also feature the NFC technology that is coming with the Nexus S, starting tomorrow.
I don’t think you should be too worried yet about buying a LTE phone soon, because I think we’ll see LTE devices from other manufacturers, such as Motorola. Rumors say that their Tegra 2 phone is coming with LTE on board, some time in February, and coming straight to Verizon, which has the first LTE network in USA.
Now to question to ask yourself is – do you really want a LTE phone? There are 2 issues that might stop you from wanting one: more expensive data plans (about $10 per GB , starting at $50 -and no unlimited option), and battery drain. We’ve heard before how WiMax is drawing more power than 3G, so we’ll see if LTE is drawing significantly more power than 3G.
