LG says Optimus Series will Get Android 2.3 update

LG has decided to put a rumor to rest, announcing via their official public notice page that they do plan on updating their current Optimus series of smartphones to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). Thats a clear yes for Gingerbread from LG. This news comes just after a Facebook/Twitter debate of sorts concerning the minimum requirements needed to receive Gingerbread. Somewhere amongst all the Android 2.3 release hype there was a rumor about Gingerbread requiring at least a 1 GHz processor let loose into the public. This ruled out quite a few devices, and left LG needing to give some answers, so they did.

“LG will upgrade all Optimus One smartphones currently using the Froyo OS to the next version of the Android OS, Gingerbread. Details of the upgrade schedule will be announced locally in due course. We sincerely apologize for the confusion and misunderstanding that was caused regarding this issue.”

Great news for anyone out there that was disappointed; don’t worry, Gingerbread is coming. The LG Optimus One series of phones includes the Vortex, Optimus T, Optimus S, Optimus M, and Optimus U, and can be found on all major carriers in the US.
