Tough, rigid, and rigorous are a few of the many words that come to mind when I think of the Motorola DEFY. It can take a beating, and…well, just keep on ringing, or so we thought. It has now come out that the ear-piece may not be up to the standards we expect. For a mobile phone that can withstand water, sand and dust, we would hope all parts would last much longer than the average smartphone.
According to Android Police, ear-pieces on devices only two weeks old are failing. Motorola is investigating this issue as it may be a manufacturing defect. The problem may be caused by the close proximity of the headphone jack to the ear-piece speaker. It is possible that constant use of the jack may be pushing the contacts onto a weld or other conductive surface, therefore creating a circuit to the ear-piece and causing a short.
Users have reported that when the device is repaired or replaced the problem goes away, but some have also reported that the problem has returned. Motorola will more than likely be making an official statement on this matter and we will keep you up to date.
