If you bought you’re Dell Streak unlocked or found out a way to install Android 2.2 (Froyo) onto your device with a contract, then you’re are already enjoying the luxuries of Android’s most recent update. For those that did not take this route with their device and were waiting for an official update from AT&T or Dell, you’re in luck because some internal e-mails have stated that Android 2.2 could be available the week of January 12.
To the disappointment of many, the Dell Streak came with Android 1.6. It still boasted features that were appealing to many. The Streak’s most notable features were its 5-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen, 1 GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera along with a front-facing camera, Wi-Fi, 3G, and GPS.
The Dell Streak has been seen running Froyo in the past but it does have the resemblance of a tablet which means that it will benefit much more with an Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) update, which will be optimized to run on bigger screens. There has also been talk that Dell could be working on a Windows phone, which would explain the delay for this update.
