Samsung Super PLS Display Tech on Display

2010 is the year of new screen technologies.  The first AMOLED screens appeared, then Super LCD, then Super AMOLED, just a few days ago LG showed off their QLED, and now Samsung is touting Super PLS.

I have never before been so impressed with a screen than with the Super AMOLED on the Galaxy S, so if Samsung tops that it will be gorgeous.

Super PLS is a technology similar to Super LCD in that it is a form of LCD.  Normally, LCD screens use what is called IPS (In Plane Switching), but the Super PLS uses Plane to Line Switching.  Samsung claims that their will be an increase in 100% over today’s TFT LCDs with 10% more brightness.  To give you an idea, both the Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab have IPS displays.

The new PLS will start production in early 2011, but it is difficult to say now as to when it will appear in devices.  If these pictures are any good representation, this will be a hot commodity.
