We told you back in September that Sharp was getting ready to launch some tablets and now they’re officially unveiled by the company itself. The tablets come in 2 sizes : 5.5 inches and 10.8 inches, both with pretty high resolution for what we’re used to at those sizes. The 5.5 inch model will have a 1024 x 600 resolution, while the 10.8 inch device will have a 1366 x 800 resolution. That is great, but I think 1280 x 800 is much better suited for a 10 inch tablet.
The 5.5 inch tablet will cost $473 while the 10.8 inch model will cost $642. The prices seem a little expensive, especially since we don’t know anything about their internals. Even so, I think that in order to be successful, Android tablets need to compete with the $500 iPad, not the more expensive Android competition. They should do this for a very simple reason: people perceive *all* iPads are basically $500, so why would they get a tablet they know a lot less about for a bigger price when they could get the iPad? Plus, I don’t want tablets prices to jump too high, like towards $1000, as the price of Galaxy Tab has jumped in Europe.
