Since the announcement of the Android 2.3 SDK(software development kit), I’m sure the top question for many Android user’s , mine as well, has been whether or not Gingerbread will make it to their device. We do know from news this week that the Nexus S will be the only sure shot device to come pre-installed with Android 2.3. With no official list of planned upgrade dates or releases, we can only base the possibility of an upgrade on what we do know about current devices on the market.
To help narrow down the prospects, thanks to AndroidCentral, a list of Gingerbread prospects has been made, to bring some hope, and good odds to anyone who already has or plans on getting a flagship phone. The devices listed below are considered to be the best candidates because they have the guts, technically speaking, that Gingerbread will require. All the tech specs for each of these devices call be found on their respective carrier pages. The hopefuls include:
- The Nexus One
- T-Mobile MyTouch 4G
- T-Mobile G2
- HTC Evo 4G, HTC Desire HD, HTC Desire, HTC Desire Z, HTC Merge
- Motorola Droid 2, Droid 2 Global
- Motorola Droid X
- Verizon Droid Incredible
- Samsung Galaxy S models including Captivate, Epic 4G, Fascinate, and Vibrant, and not to leave it out, The Samsung Galaxy Tablet
So there they are, Android devices with the best chances of seeing that sweet Gingerbread OTA sometime in the near future. All popular phones offering the best Android has, so why wouldn’t they see an upgrade? Rumor is that the Nexus One will be the first of these devices to see the Android 2.3 update, with word that the Sprint Evo 4G might be coming before Christmas. Only time will tell.
