Asus, maker of popular computers and laptops, has thrown their hat into the Android tablet ring by announcing a trio of Android-powered tablets.
We knew there would be tons of tablets at CES, and that a more than a few would be of the bargain basement variety, but these new devices from Asus are definitely worth a look.
First up is the Eee Pad MeMO
The MeMO is a 7.1-inch tablet with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor under the hood. Additionally, the tablet has dual cameras and offers 1080p video playback. Another interesting feature is the inclusion of a stylus for use with Asus’ graphics and note applications. Release is slated for June, 2011 with a price point between $499-$699.
Next up is the Eee Pad Transformer
As you can see from the photo this tablet features a detachable keyboard. The Transformer comes with a 10.1-inch, 1200×800 display and a Tegra 2 dual-core processor. Additional features include 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.2-megapixel front camera. Asus is claiming that the Transformer’s battery will last you 16-hours, which seems pretty good, but we’ll have to wait until some real usage tests are done to see exactly how much juice you can get.
Expect the Transformer to hit stores in April, 2011 for a price between $399 and $699.
Last up is the Eee Pad Slider
The Slider is similar to the Transformer, both internally and externally, except that instead of a detachable keyboard, it features a slide-out keyboard. Asus says to expect the Slider to be released in May with pricing between $699 and $999.
What’s interesting about the Slider and the Transformer is how the line between laptop and tablet is starting to blur. One can only wonder what will become of the lowly netbook once devices like these become mainstream.
As stated, each of these tablets will be running Honeycomb on release.
